The main factors affecting the membrane filtration process in MBR are: the inherent properties of the membrane, the properties of the mixture in the reactor and the membrane module operating conditions.
Intrinsic properties of the membrane
(1) Surface roughness
As the roughness of the membrane surface increases, the total surface area of the membrane increases accordingly. Thereby increasing the surface of the membrane to absorb contaminants.
Additional possibilities: but it may also increase the degree of hydraulic disturbance on the membrane surface, hindering the adsorption of contaminants on the membrane surface, so
The degree of membrane fouling can be improved by changing the roughness of the membrane surface.
(2) Hydrophobicity of the membrane
Since both waste water and activated sludge are organic substances, and hydrophilic membranes can reduce the interfacial energy between the membrane surface and raw water. Hydrophilic membranes are generally more resistant to contamination than hydrophobic membranes, but hydrophilic membrane ability of the resistant to protein contamination is little weak.
(3) Membrane structure
According to the membrane structure, the membrane can be divided into a symmetric membrane and an asymmetric membrane. Since the surface diameter of the asymmetric membrane is smaller than the internal pore diameter, most of the pollutants are trapped on the surface, and it is difficult to enter the membrane pore. Therefore, the membrane for MBR is generally used as an asymmetric membrane.
(4) Membrane pore size
The pore size of the membrane is large, and the pore blockage is easily to occur, resulting in irreversible pollution.
